When it rains, you can easily borrow an umbrella from TaEnParaply using your phone. Just scan the QR code at the station, unlock the umbrella, and continue on your way — dry and ready. Once you reach your destination, return the umbrella to any station so the next person can use it too. A simple solution for rainy days, and a smart way to share in the city.

Together, we create a smarter city

TaEnParaply started as a local experiment in downtown Ålesund, and since then our umbrellas have been in active use at cafés, public squares, and tourist spots across the city. Each borrowed umbrella is a small proof that the system works in practice, offering people an easy and pleasant way to stay dry. Our collaboration with local partners makes borrowing and returning simple, creating a welcoming experience for both residents and visitors.

Experiences from Ålesund show that small actions can have a big impact. By borrowing and returning umbrellas, we build trust, care, and community in the city – while also protecting the environment and making everyday life a little easier for neighbors and visitors alike. This pilot gives us the confidence to bring the concept to new cities, with the same focus on sharing and thoughtfulness.
